AKA DIJADONTNEEDYA

"Why Dijadontneedya?"

Khadijah James, played by Queen Latifah, was the main character of the iconic 90s Black sitcom, Living Single. She was the editor and publisher of Flavor magazine, and was all-around fly girl - and she was making Black content for a Black audience! I grew up with Living Single in the background of my life, not only because I shared the name of the main character, but because I saw myself in a character who was ridiculously smart, hard-working, entrepreneurial - and also gorgeous, having fun dating, and giving us fashion LEWKS. I wanted all of that. I didn't want to have to be less Black, be less fly, to be excellent. When I was in college, the tagline that Khadijah James spouted off multiple times throughout the life of the show became my moniker across social media and then my life. It’s a reminder that I don’t need vanity metrics to make my life whole or achieve my dreams. I became "Dijadontneedya."
