I'm entering the stage of life where, at any moment, I can have more life behind me than in front. It makes you realize how precious every second is. I'm doing all the shit I've always wanted to do sooner rather than later. First up - my new personal newsletter! During Black History Month 2024, I figured there was no better time to launch a new, very Black, thing that represents the whole me than Black History Month! It comes out every 2 weeks, and is an amalgamation of all the things that make me me. Like random funny videos? Want to know about amazing Black-owned companies in which you can invest? Looking for dope new Black businesses to support in Atlanta and beyond? Trying to figure out ways to fund your business as a minority entrepreneur? Want to know about ways to support your community and get in the "good trouble" John Lewis dealt in? My newsletter is a bit of everything for the people like me who are, and also need, a bit of everything. Subscribe below and check out the archive of previous issues.
“It's not the load that breaks you down. It's the way you carry it.”
I hit my first 100 subscribers for this newsletter last week, one week after dropping it, and I can’t lie. That felt good! I love community, and I am thankful for this one. This newsletter is dedicated to the whole life I intend to live this year, and of course ALL things Blackity Black Black, so let me know if there is anything you’d love to see in forthcoming issues.

“Treating different things the same can generate as much inequality as treating the same things differently.”
I love Black people. Truly. The way we took the term “DEI” and made it into a joke — as we do with so many things — truly classic. Often, our collective trauma response as Black folks is rooted in humor, and although the current usage of the term DEI is hilarious, it is also only necessitated by the fact that we are under attack.

“To be a Negro in this country and to be relatively conscious is to be in a state of rage almost, almost all of the time,”
This is one of my all-time favorite Black-owned businesses. Thank GOD they opened a location in Atlanta (there is one in Brooklyn too, of course). They always have the most pleasant staff, are great for a coworking location, in the summer they have monthly block parties on Saturdays, and they recently started up a game night. It’s the community 3rd spot that we all need - plus the tea is amazing.

"The beauty of anti-racism is that you don't have to pretend to be free of racism to be an anti-racist. "
This issue is about anti-Blackness in all its manifestations. The things I’ve seen online this month, from the debate on interracial marriage to the denouncing of Black institutions like Delta Sigma Theta and Spelman College as demonic (?!) have honestly made me sad for us.

“And so, lifting as we climb, onward and upward we go, struggling and striving, and hoping that the buds and blossoms of our desires will burst into glorious fruition ‘ere long.”
My dad recently commented on how white my teeth looked on a video chat, and I had to give all the glory to my tooth powder. It’s natural, and also, it has my teeth teethin!
